Response-theory for nonresonant hole burning: Stochastic dynamics

چکیده

The time signals relevant for nonresonant spectral hole burning, a pump-wait-probe method designed to investigate slow relaxation, are calculated. The step-response function following the application of a high amplitude ac field (pump) and an intermediate waiting period is shown to be the sum of the equilibrium integrated response and a modification due to the preparation via ac irradiation. Both components are calculated for a class of stochastic dipole reorientation models. The results indicate that the method can be used for a clearcut distinction of homogeneously and heterogeneously broadened susceptibilities as they occur in the slow primary relaxation of supercooled liquids and other disordered materials. This is because only in the heterogeneous case is a frequency selective modification of the response possible.

Hole-Burning Spectroscopy on Excitonically Coupled Pigments in Proteins: Theory Meets Experiment

A theory for the calculation of resonant and nonresonant hole-burning (HB) spectra of pigment-protein complexes is presented and applied to the water-soluble chlorophyll-binding protein (WSCP) from cauliflower. The theory is based on a non-Markovian line shape theory ( Renger and Marcus J. Chem. Phys. 2002 , 116 , 9997 ) and includes exciton delocalization, vibrational sidebands, and lifetime b...

Nonresonant holeburning in the Terahertz range: Brownian oscillator model.

The response to the field sequence of nonresonant hole burning, a pump-wait-probe experiment originally designed to investigate slow relaxation in complex systems, is calculated for a model of Brownian oscillators, thus including inertial effects. In the overdamped regime the model predictions are very similar to those of the purely dissipative stochastic models investigated earlier, including ...

Spectra and waiting-time densities in firing resonant and nonresonant neurons.

The response of a neural cell to an external stimulus can follow one of two patterns: nonresonant neurons monotonically relax to the resting state after excitation while resonant ones show subthreshold oscillations. We investigate how these subthreshold properties of neurons affect their suprathreshold response. Conversely we ask the following: Can we distinguish between both types of neuronal ...

Dynamic heterogeneities in the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of simple spherical spin models.

The response of spherical two-spin interaction models, the spherical ferromagnet (s-FM) and the spherical Sherrington-Kirkpatrick (s-SK) model, is calculated for the protocol of the so-called nonresonant hole burning (NHB) experiment for temperatures below the respective critical temperatures. It is shown that it is possible to select dynamic features in the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of both ...

On the Conflicting Estimations of Pigment Site Energies in Photosynthetic Complexes: A Case Study of the CP47 Complex

We focus on problems with elucidation of site energies [Formula: see text] for photosynthetic complexes (PSCs) in order to raise some genuine concern regarding the conflicting estimations propagating in the literature. As an example, we provide a stern assessment of the site energies extracted from fits to optical spectra of the widely studied CP47 antenna complex of photosystem II from spinach...
